Sharon's Antiques

From the Lehigh Valley of PA, this bright quilt features 9 patch blocks set in 4 patch blocks, nearly an Irish Chain. It measures about 79 x 92 inches.

Price: $395

9 patch blocks of 1 1/2 inch squares of double pink and poison green are set with 4 1/2 inch squares of a Turkey red print, forming a row of 9 inch squares.
These larger squares are in turn flanked by 4 1/2 inch squares of Lancaster blue, and divided by rows of squares of a double cheddar print.
The central field is surrounded by a 7 1/2 inch border of double pink, and there's a hand-stitched applied binding in cheddar.
Quilted in straight line chevrons and grids at about 6-7 stitches per inch. Thin batting.
The back is sewn in longitudinal bars of two separate 1880's brown prints. There is an apparent dampstain in the center, which does not, however, show through on the top.
Close up of backing fabrics
Three different overdyed green prints were used in this quilt, along with at least 4 or 5 different double pinks.
One or two subtle surface smudges are the only blemishes on the top of the quilt, quite unobtrusive. The quilt retains its original body, was apparently never laundered.
