Measuring about 88 inches square, this pinwheels quilt dates from ca. 1880 and was found in Berks Co., PA. Excellent condition.

A brown calico border measuring 12 inches wide encloses a central field of 36 pinwheel blocks set on point, each measuring about 7 inches.
7 inch blocks of a red calico separate the pinwheel blocks, which are made from a variety of calicos in red, yellow, blue, green, pink, gray, brown and more.
Quilted in diagonals in the border, a grid in the setting blocks, and by the piece in the pattern blocks at 6 to 7 stitches per inch. Very thin batting.
The back of the quilt is composed of strips of two different colorways of a brown calico.
