| From a design published by Marie Webster in 1915, here's a lovely "French Baskets" appliqué quilt. Ca. 1930, it measures about 78 inches square.
Pale blue, pink and dark green solid cotton sateen fabrics are appliquéd on an ivory sateen background. It's easy to see why Marie Webster's designs were so well regarded!
The appliqué includes difficult narrow curved, twisted and overlapped pieces, as well as reverse appliqué in the baskets.
Quilted in outline, and in a half-inch diagonal grid in the background, at 7-8 stitches per inch.
The backing fabric is a white cotton sateen.
The quilt shows no wear and retains the penciled markings for quilting. There is slight fading and a few pale blemishes that are unobtrusive.
The yellow centers of the larger pink flowers are embroidered in French knots.
The separate binding is machine and hand stitched.
