| From the Oley valley of Berks Co., PA, a four-patch square in square quilt. Measures a large 98 x 85 inches and dates from ca.1890. In crisp, unused condition.
A double pink border on three sides and a green calico border on all four enclose an unusual setting of four patch blocks in green squares set on point, sashed with a zigzag of double pink.
A large dogtooth inner border of Lancaster blue also surrounds the central field of blocks. The fabrics in the four patch blocks include practically every color available to the turn of the century quilter.
The quilting is done in a 1 1/2 inch grid overall, at 6-7 stitches per inch.
This quilt boasts a "bars" pattern back in red and brown calicos. The binding is a dark green calico.
