An original and unusual 1920's version of the Lone Star, with added Carolina Lily blocks. From the Lehigh Valley, PA, it measures about 78 x 79 inches, in excellent condition.
The large central star is constructed from diamonds of calicos in green, yellow, red, pink and white.
The star is set with blocks of a pink calico, and nine inch blocks with a pieced and appliqued Carolina Lily on sides and corners. The central field is surrounded with a 4 3/4 inch inner border in white, and a 3 1/2 inch outer, pink border.
Quilted by the piece, and in a clamshell pattern, at 6-7 stitches per inch. Some pencil lines evident.
The quilt is backed with a pink printed fabric. The same fabric is used for a separate, hand stitched binding.
Close-up shows patterns of calico prints.
